Ster and Bobbie’s wedding quilt

What do you do when you are waiting on fabric samples for the backing of the Irish Chain quilt.

You do some prep for your next quilt. This quilt is a wedding present for friends Bobbie and Ster who got married last year. The brief was a double quilt with Pride colours. We agreed on this gorgeous quilt pattern.

I tried finding the pattern and realised that the designer had passed away about 8 years ago. Using the EQ8 software I created a block, similar to the original. Mine is 10” while hers was 9”. I’m using 4 shades of yellow, green, blue, purple and pink, with grey and black for the sides.

For the quilt back, I wanted something that reflected them as a couple. They love board games so I asked them to give me a list of their favourite games. With the wonders of the internet, I was able to input the words and presto, a crossword was created. This quilt will take some time to make as the blocks are FPP (foundation paper piecing) and creating the crossword is going to be a bit challenging. I would like to have a thin black outline around each block.

I’m most likely going to dip in and out of stitching this with other quilts.
